About
In todays age and time where the search for perfection, identity and belonging has never been so prevalent in our fast paced culture, Kirstin Finlayson explores the notion of identity through memory as a historical relic.
Employing the use of various media and materials, Kirstin’s focus is to create works that are both honest & whimsical, creating a self portrait surrounding itself with memory and identity.
“it is often a reflection on a particular memory that through re-configuration is being transformed from a negative experience to a positive expression of survival. Painting allows me to capture that raw and energetic moment.”
Whilst Kirstin’s sculptural work has previously explored the memory of childhood through the re-contextualisation of found objects and bric- a brac, her current body of work and abstract paintings delve more deeply into the emotion and energy of individual transformation, internal memory and self now becoming the object.
“Having undergone this transformation the discarded object now has a new purpose and has become a new precious commodity, a one of a kind collectible”.
